Selling up

As you can imagine it is a very busy and costly experience sorting out a house and getting it into a fit state to put on the market. Since moving into the house in 1989 when we were married we have never had any spare cash to decorate, needless to say we have had a lot needing to be done. Firstly we have had to have a new kitchen put in as our old one was a miss mash of different cupboards which were falling apart. The next major thing has been the double glazing as our old windows had wooden frames which were so rotten that they were practically falling out, made the house well ventilated though! The down side of all this work being done is that after living in an embarrassingly run down house for nearly 14 years it is slowly starting to take some shape, and looking quite nice, in fact I think I may even end up being sad to leave it and envious of the new occupiers!

Although we have done a lot we still have more to do, so many walls and ceilings need painting/decorating (I am getting sick of the colour Magnolia!). Hopefully by the end of March it will be ready to go up for sale and then we can concentrate of what, if anything, to take with us.

I would like to point out, that on reading numerous articles on trying to emigrate, they all state that it is unwise to do anything drastic in changing your life before you know whether you are going to be granted your visa or not, like taking redundancy, selling your property........oops! Wise we have never been!

Update May 13th 2003

Ha, end of March! Dream on. House finally went on the market Tuesday 6th May! We are a little behind schedule. Total nightmare keeping it up straight with three horrors running about. Feel sorry for them, they are banned from having any drinks or food anywhere other than the kitchen, and have to go into the utility room to draw.....no way am I going to find a nice drawing on my wallpaper!

We are hoping for a quick sale, as soon as the house is gone, so are we!

Our house - any buyers?............SOLD!!!!!......YAHOO!!!!!

...........................

Too impatient to wait for the house to sell, our lives have been on hold for long enough. Took a gamble and flew from Heathrow airport on 2nd September with house unsold. Very scary feeling as we only had a small budget to survive on. Landed in Adelaide on the 6th September, phone call from Estate Agent that we had a buyer on the 7th September, all contracts signed and dusted 2nd December 2003, what a feeling!
